The Eiffel Tower was cool yea. But I'd argue that it's French...with all it's connotations. Now if you were BOMB, St. Peter is where it's all at. [CUT] Lemme start with the morning. When our history-nut tour guide asserted: "I'm not a historian, I teach design class" I also puked cuz I figure in that case, I'd be loathed to take his class. Bad enough that he makes us stand in one spot for 2 hours at a time on piazza history, culture, geometry, material significance, etc. etc. Guess the concept of SITTING DOWN never occurs to his ram-rodded back. However, I was quite moved to stand before Castel Sant'Angelo: my first 10year old architectural drawing, copied from a borrowed book on Renaissance painting. In chronological order, this brings us back to St. Peter's where the sequential sketches were deemed unworthy in comparison to the prospect of climbing to the top of the cupoloa of St. Peter's Basilica. With the whole of Rome spread approximately 400 feet beneath us, the cloudy heavens parted to allow a beam of Godly sunlight piece the Italian landscape.
